I’ve always believed in rising above challenges, but this summer, as I turned 25, life threw us a curveball that redefined what that truly means. My mum, gave me a rather dramatic birthday present – an unexpected and extended stay in hospital. It started with a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and then came the big C diagnosis. No, not Covid – cancer.
Thankfully, she’s doing well now, fighting with the strength and resilience that I’ve always admired in her. I’m in constant awe and so proud of how she confronts every challenge head-on. If I ever needed an inspiration, it’s her. She’s a living example of strength, yet she doesn’t even realise how amazing she is.
This experience has brought a new perspective to this blog – and the ‘Your Marathon’ initiative. It’s not just about running 26.2 miles; it’s about facing your personal marathons, whatever they may be. For my mum, her marathon has been battling through her health challenges with the brilliance she always does.
It reminds us that our marathons come in different forms. It’s about endurance, resilience, and the spirit to keep moving forward, no matter what life throws our way.
And hey, Mum, if you’re reading this – I’m hoping for a slightly less eventful gift for my 26th birthday! 😉
